Thursday, 17 September 2015
Putting emphasis on the necessity of sustainable networking among the chambers operating in Bangladesh, Board of Investment (BoI) Executive Chairman Dr SA Samad on Thursday said Bangladesh would require around $7-8 billion investment in infrastructure development to attain 8-9 percent GDP growth.
"Joint Chambers' leaders should come forward with investment, as the government has identified 27 locations for setting up special economic zones," he said while addressing the Joint Chambers' Meet Up organized by the Canada Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CanCham Bangladesh) in association with BoI at DCCI auditorium, said a BSS report.
Samad hope the Joint Chambers could play a pivotal role to give big push to trade and investment in Bangladesh.
Mentioning that economic and social indicators of Bangladesh are showing commendable progress, Samad said since 2009 foreign direct investment (FDI) inflow has been increasing steadily.
In his welcome address, CanCham Bangladesh President Masud Rahman called for strong networking to strengthen joint Chambers' voice in policy formulation for trade and investment as well as attracting FDI.
Highlighting the present investment regime in Bangladesh as quite attractive, he said: "we are yet to reap maximum benefit out of it because of precarious condition in areas like infrastructure, port, energy and gas."
Masud said joint chambers would play pivotal role to promote trade and investment between Bangladesh and other countries.
Director of Nordic Chamber of Commerce and H&M Regional Head (Bangladesh and Pakistan) Roger Hubert, Dutch-Bangla Chamber of Commerce President Hasan Khaled, Indonesia-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce Senior Vice President Muhammad Golam Mustafa, France-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce Director Dr Rifat Rashid, India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce CEO Jahangir Bin Alam, Bangladesh-Thai Chamber of Commerce Senior Vice President Charles C R Patra, Turkey-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce Advisor Halef Ozkurt, Italy-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce President H M Hakim Ali, Philippine-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce President R Maksud Khan and Executive Member of BoI Nabhash Chandra Mandal were present in the function.
