Thursday, 6 November 2014

Suspected hartal supporters damaged a BRTC bus and some passing vehicles in the city’s Lalbagh Police Station area on Wednesday night. Local people said a group of young men, seemed to be pro-hartal activists, hurled crude bombs at a BRTC bus and then threw brick chips at passing vehicles in Azimpur area around 8:10pm. The bus and a few other vehicles were damaged in the attack, which sent a panic wave in the area. However, no injuries were reported in the incident that took place when the 2nd spell of Jamaat-e-Islami’s 48-hour nationwide shutdown programme, that began at 6:00am on Wednesday, was underway. Jamaat is enforcing the 2-day non-stop general strike protesting the death sentence awarded to its top two leaders – Mir Quasem Ali and M Kamaruzzaman – for war crimes, according to a news agency.
