Book unveiled on late Fakhruddin

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali unveiled on Thursday the cover of a book, 'Regional Cooperation and Globalization: Bangladesh, South Asia and Beyond', at his ministry, reports UNB.
The book, a compilation of articles written in memory of Ambassador Fakhruddin Ahmed and Prof Zillur R Khan, was edited by Dr Meghna Guhathakurta.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam and Ambassador Faruq Sobhan also spoke at the launching event held at Ambassador Fakhruddin Ahmed Memorial Hall of the ministry.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said, "This anthology of 11 articles attempts to explore the various issues and problems facing by South Asian nations, especially Bangladesh, from colonial times to its emergence as an independent nation."
He paid tributes to late Fakhruddin for his sincere efforts for protecting the national interest and paving a smooth way for the country's new generation foreign officials.
Fakhruddin Ahmed, a career diplomat of 1954 batch, had played a very crucial role as foreign secretary in the early 70s and mid-80s.
He had also served as Bangladesh Ambassador to Itally and Yugoslavia and as High Commissioner to the UK.
After his retirement, he was called to serve as Foreign Affairs Adviser to then acting President Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed in 1990-1991.
Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque and family members of late Fakhruddin were, among others, present at the function.
