The PM also requested the private organisations specially the pharmaceutical companies to supplement government efforts for extending financial support to research and development in the health sector.
The PM suggested the physicians to prevent diseases instead of providing treatment.
Sheikh Hasina requested the physicians not to be confined in identifying disease and innovation of treatment methods only but also try to improve the medical and health system and ensure its better use through a proper restructuring of the system.
Referring to Bangladesh's successes in eliminating small pox, polio and cholera, Sheikh Hasina urged the physicians to carry out research on Malaria, Kalajor, Filariasis and Dengue.
Reminding the duties and responsibilities of physicians, the PM said, "You have pursued your studies in medical colleges with the tax money of the poor people, so you have responsibility to them to provide adequate health services".
She said, apart from this, her present government appointed 3,551 physicians on ad-hoc basis to solve crisis of physicians in the country. Another 800 physicians will get appointment soon through the 28th BCS examinations, she added.
Giving details, the Prime Minister said her government has already recruited 6,391 health assistants and 1,445 nurses and the appointment of 301 more nurses is at the final stage.
