TANGAIL Feb 11: Boro cultivation is going on in full swing under a massive programme in the 12 upazilas of the district.
The local farmers said they suffered a huge loss in last Aman season as there was almost no production from the lands.
But they are hopeful of getting necessary support from the government for Boro cultivation to cover the losses.
They also said, beside the favourable weather, adequate supply of fertiliser, pesticides with reasonable price, sufficient power supply for running irrigation pumps have to be ensured to get maximum Boro production.
District Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said the target of the Boro variety is to cultivate the crop in 1,65,577 hectares of land this year and production target was 0.670281 million metric tonnes of rice.
Tangail DAE Deputy Director Hakim Uddin told this reporter that special initiatives have been taken for cultivating hybrid variety of Boro paddy this season.
He said out of the targeted total land, 43, 577 hectares have been brought under hybrid cultivation.
The government has distributed necessary agriculture inputs for the success of the programme including quality Boro seeds, fertiliser and ensured supply of power for irrigation.
