Boro harvest begins in Tangail

TANGAIL, May 9: Harvest of Boro paddy begins in all the 12 upazilas of the district this year.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Tangail sources said, the Boro cultivation target for the district was fixed 170082 hectares of land with the production target 65881 tonnes of paddy. Among the Boro variety farmers of the district cultivated - Hybrid in 2313 hectares, Ubshi in 167016 hectares and the local in 753 hectares of lands.
Farmers of the district are expecting a bumper production of Boro paddy this year as they are getting at least 40 to 50 kg of paddy per decimal.
Saiful Islam, sub-assistant of DAE Tangail said, the DAE office provided all logistic support to the farmers for the success of Boro paddy cultivation.
Harvesting of the paddy began from the last week of April and it will continue till the month of June.
Solim Uddin, son of Boshu Miah of village Mahmudpur under Delduar upazila told to the FE that he harvested Boro in approximately 60 decimals of his land and he is expecting 40 to 50 kg of paddy per decimal.
Concerned officials and farmers are expecting a bumper production of the paddy in the district this season due to a favourable climatic condition.
