Boro paddy, rice procurement begins

GAIBANDHA, MAY 21 (BSS): Boro paddy and rice procurement drive of Department of Food has started in Gobindaganj Upazila in the district on Wednesday amid much enthusiasm.
Official sources said the government has set a target to procure 606 tonnes of paddy from the farmers directly and 13,445 tonnes of rice from the millers of the upazila during the current Boro season.
Principal Abul Kalam Azad, local MP, formally inaugurated the procurement drive at local supply depot (LSD) in Golapbag area of Gobindaganj Upazila town as the chief guest.
District Food Controller M. Amzad Hossain, UNO Mamun-ul-Islam, upazila food controller Bimal Chandra, president of Rice Mills Owners Association, upazila unit, Shafiqul Islam and political leaders and journalists were present on the occasion.
