Boro paddy-rice procurement begins in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH, June 1 (BSS): The procurement drive of Boro paddy and rice began in Boda Upazila of the district today amid much enthusiasm.
Official sources said the government has set a target to purchase a total of 248 tonnes of paddy from the farmers directly and 1,538 tonnes of rice from the millers of the upazila during the current Boro season.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Mamunur Rashid formally inaugurated the procurement drive at local supply depot of the upazila.
Speaking on the occasion, the UNO urged all to follow the guidelines set by the government for procuring paddy and rice.
Deputy Commissioner Md Nazrul Islam said as many as 1,100 tonnes of Boro paddy and 14,800 tonnes of rice would be procured through six purchasing centres of the district this year.
Per kg of paddy from the farmers and rice from the millers is being purchased at Tk 20 and Tk 31 respectively, he said.
