Boro plantation ends in Joypurhat

JOYPURHAT, Mar 16 (BSS): Farmers have completed transplantation of Boro seedlings on 97 percent targeted land in the district, officials of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said.
"The cultivation target of Boro crop during this season is expected to be achieved within the next week and tender Boro plants are growing excellent amid favourable climatic conditions," deputy director of the DAE said.
The officials said farmers have completed transplantation of Boro seedlings on 69, 500 hectares, which is over 97 percent of the fixed target of bringing 71, 517 hectares under Boro cultivation this time in the district.
A total of 12, 077 irrigation pumps, including power and diesel driven deep tube wells, shallow tube wells and low lift pumps, are operating in the district. The sources said there is no problem in supply of diesel, electricity and fertilizers anywhere in the district due to adequate steps taken by the present government.
Deputy director of DAE Azhar Ali Mondal said they are expecting a bumper Boro production this season.
