TANGAIL, Apr 12: Boro production may exceed target this year unless there is any massive natural disaster.
The recent seasonal storms and rainfalls did not affect the boro fields leaving the hope of bumper production of the paddy.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Tangail said boro cultivation target was fixed at 164197 hectares of land this year.
But the farmers have cultivated paddy on 167403 hectares. The additional cultivation has created a hope of surplus production of food grain.
Boro production target was fixed at 628137 tonnes this year.
Sources said farmers offered their best efforts to produce the paddy. They did not care for government incentives or inputs during cultivation.
Sub Assistant Agriculture Officer of DAE Tangail Md Shariful Islam said unless there is any massive natural calamity, there will be a bumper boro production this year and target would exceed. The government functionaries offered their best efforts to help farmers in cultivation process, he added.
