Bottle-gourd cultivation brings solvency to Joypurhat farmers

JOYPURHAT, Nov 10: Bottle-gourd cultivation has gained popularity in Joypurhat recently. It is a more delicious item than the other items of vegetable.
This year, bottle-guard was cultivated on 5 thousand acres of land in the district, said the DAE sources.
Tofazzal Hossain, a farmer of village Chak under Sadar Upazila has gained good solvency by cultivating Bottle-guard. He cultivated on one bigha of land and earned Tk 40 thousand within 6 Months. He said " I am very happy to cultivate this vegetable item. I am benefited more. It does not need big land to cultivate this. Anybody can cultivate this vegetable in their house or other lands so easily".
Rokeya Bibi, a housewife of Akkelpur Upazila said to FE that she earned a good profit by cultivating the vegetable. She made profit at Tk 20,000 by cultivating only on half bigha of land with a little cost. Like Rokeya, most of the housewives and farmers in the district motivated to cultivate this vegetable.
Sahar Uddin, a farmer of Dargapara under Panchbibi Upazila became solvent by cultivating this vegetable. He said to the FE " This is a beneficial cultivation. I have cultivated bottle-gourd only on one acre of land and I have earned Tk 0.1 million this year. Its demand and value is good at the market."
Now it is being sold in the local market at Tk 10 to 12 per Kg. The vegetable item is being supplied to many other districts as will as the capital and metropolitan cities. A larger trading system has been opened in the district. Many wholesale traders came to the district to buy this item.
Sahidul Islam, a vegetable trader of Natun Hat said that most of the consumers looked for the bottle-gourd when they came to buy vegetables in the market. After all, its demand is good in all seasons and its price is good at both retail and wholesale market, he added.
