Monday, 13 December 2010

The government will put boundary pillars by demarcating boundaries of the rivers that surround the capital city -- Buriganga, Sitalakhya, Turag and Balu -- by May next year for restoring navigability of the rivers, reports UNB.
"The tender process for building boundary pillars will be completed by January 5 next year," Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan told reporters after a meeting at his Secretariat office Sunday.
The taskforce formed to ensure navigability and normal water flow of the rivers in its 10th meeting decided to complete the project of building boundary pillars by May.
Chaired by Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan, the meeting was attended by Water Resources Minister Ramesh Chandra Sen, Land Minister Rezaul Karim Hira, AKM Mozammel Haque MP, M Aslamul Haq MP and some environmentalists.
The meeting also decided to send draft of the National River Protection Bill to the Cabinet Division for its approval within seven days after an inter-ministerial meeting.
