Bourses see downward tend at opening

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) saw negative trend in early hours of trading on Wednesday amid choppy trading, the 4th session of the week. DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went down by 12.79 points or 0.26 per cent to 4,825.84 after the 1st 30 minutes of trade when the report was filed at 11am. The other two indices saw downward trend. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, lost 2.85 points or 0.15 per cent to slip to 1,788.55 points. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) dropped 3.52 points or 0.30 per cent to stand at 1,139.41 points. DSE turnover stood at Tk 164 million when the report was filed at 11am. Of the issues traded till then, 51 advanced, 135 declined and 51 remained unchanged. Saif Powertec was the most traded stocks with shares worth Tk 37m changing hands till then followed by Agni Systems, Lafarge Surma, United Leasing and BEDL. The port city bourse – CSE – also saw negative trend in early hour amid volatility with its Selective Category Index – CSCX – losing 41.10 points to 9,011.81, also at 11am. Of the issues traded till then, 21 gained, 78 declined and 16 remained unchanged with a turnover value of Tk 20m.
