Bowlers, Bryce star in Scotland's comfortable win over Bangladesh
Monday, 1 June 2026
Scotland's 17-year-old right-arm pacer Gabriella Fontenla bowled a maiden over and conceded just 11 runs in the other three as she and her fellow bowlers laid the platform for a big win over Bangladesh. Kirstie Gordon was frugal too, conceding just 21 runs in her four overs while captain Kathryn Bryce picked 1-24 in 3 overs before returning to smash an undefeated 32-ball 54 in chase, reports Cricbuzz.
Bangladesh top-order didn't come through for Nigar Sultana after she chose to bat at the Grange Cricket Club in Edinburgh. Bangladesh lost openers Juairiya Ferdous and Dilara Akter inside the Powerplay and No.3 batter Sharmin Akhter in the ninth over. Sultana took matters into her own hands, as she scored a fighting 46 off 39 that included five fours and a six. She added two key stands with Sobhana Mostary and Shorna Akter to push her side towards a total in excess of 120.
That however proved too little as Scotland snared it down with eight wickets and 26 balls to spare. After Scotland lost opener Darcey Carter in the fifth over, Bryce took over to forge two alliances that put her team on course to the win. She added 47 off 39 with Katherine Fraser and then took her team home with a whirlwind stand worth 54 off just 28 deliveries with Sarah Bryce, who hit the winning four.
Scorecard:Bangladesh Women 133/5 in 20 overs (Nigar Sultana 46; Gabriella Fontenla 1-11, Abtaha Maqsood 1-14, Kirstie Gordon 1-21) lost to Scotland 134/2 in 15.4 overs (Kathryn Bryce 54*) by 8 wickets.
