Bowlers script Pakistan's winning start

Sri Lanka beat UAE

Pakistan, one of the contenders of the Women's Asia Cup title, made a flying start, whacking Malaysia Women's team past by nine wickets in their opening game of the continental tournament at the Academy Ground of Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet on Sunday, reports BSS.
Being sent to bat first, Malaysia were restricted to 57-9 with only batter Elsa Hunter reaching double digit figure. She indeed was not out on 29 after playing 51 balls and hitting three boundaries.
Off-spinner Omaima Sohail was the wrecker-in-chief, claiming three for 19 runs in three overs. Tuba Hasan played a perfect foil to her with two wickets for 13 runs. Diana Beg and Sadia Iqbal took one wicket apiece.
Pakistan, however, reached the winning target, making 61-1 in just nine overs without facing any serious trouble by the Malaysia bowlers. Opener Sidra Amin was the highest scorer for the side with 23 ball-31, clattering five fours. Another opener Muneeba Ali was not out on 21. Captain Bismah Maroof was also batting on 8 when Pakistan confirmed the expected victory.
In the day's other match, Sri Lanka beat United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 11 runs through D/L method at the same venue and bounced back to winning way after their 41-run defeat to mighty India in the first game.
Sri Lanka posted a moderate 109-9 after electing to bat first. Opener Harshitha Samarawickrama was the top-scorer with 37 while Nilakshi de Silva and Anushka Sanjeewani added 19 and 17 runs respectively. Mahika Gaur and Vaishnave Mahesh snapped up three wickets apiece for UAE.
However, a spell of shower hampered the progress of the match after the Lankan innings. As the rain stopped, the revised target for UAE was set 66 runs in 11 overs. The UAE women's team was able to put up 54-7 in the stipulated overs. Opener Theertha Satish scored 19 and was the only one from her side to get past double digit mark.
