Bowling coach Tait backs new faces, urges Nahid to keep it simple

Thursday, 23 April 2026

Bangladesh pace bowling coach Shaun Tait said on Wednesday that both Abdul Gaffar Saqlain and Ripon Mondol have earned their places in the T20I squad for the opening two games against New Zealand, reports Cricbuzz.
While Saqlain received a maiden call-up, Ripon has played three T20I matches for Bangladesh, all during the 2023 Asian Games cricket competition. The team management, meanwhile, rested three senior pacers - Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana. Mustafizur and Nahid are expected to travel to Pakistan to feature in the Pakistan Super League for their respective franchises. Tait, who has monitored both Saqlain and Mondol closely, believes the timing is right to expose them at the international level. The T20Is will follow the series-deciding third ODI in Chattogram today (Thursday). "I think both of them earned their rights (to be in the squad)," said Tait ahead of the ODI series decider. "It's good to see a couple of new faces in the national team, obviously we have seen a bit of them. I've worked with them recently. I've seen a little bit of them in their emerging stage and whatever before that, and they both have played really well last 12 months, whether it is BPL, or emerging cricket, they've both performed really well.
