Jessore, Oct 3 (UNB): A schoolboy died after he was beaten by his mother and brother-in-law (sister's husband) over his demand for buying a mobile phone set at Jahangirpur village in Chougachha upazila on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Mostaque Hossain, 14, a Class-VII student of Garibpur High School and son of expatriate Mohidul Islam of the village. Victim's paternal uncle Obaidul Haque said Mostaque had long been demanding a mobile phone set from his mother, Rebeka Begum.
On Friday, he again demanded the handset, saying he would not do any household work until his demand was met. Angered, Rebeka hit Mostaque in one of the ears with a tree branch. At one stage, his brother-in-law Monu Miah also beat him. After the beating, the schoolboy became unconscious.
He was rushed to Chougachha Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead. Officer-in-charge of Chougachha Police Station Akram Hossain said police arrested Rebeka from her house.
