Boy killed in school bldg collapse

A schoolboy was killed as an abandoned building of a secondary school collapsed on him at Poranpur village in Chitalmari upazila on Sunday. The deceased was identified as M Saiful Islam, 11, a Class-VI student of Poranpur SM Rakibuzzaman High School and son of Yahiya Sheikh of the village. M Haider Ali, headmaster of the school, said a portion of the abandoned school building caved in and fell on Saiful at noon when he went to the vulnerable building during the break hour. Rescued by teachers and students, Saiful was rushed to nearby Gopalganj Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries in the evening. Dilip Kumar Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Chitalmari Police Station, confirmed the incident, according to a news agency.
