BPC chair blames political partisan for journalism without morality

RAJSHAHI, June 27 (BSS): Chairman of Bangladesh Press Council (BPC) Justice Kazi Ebadul Haque has said political partisan is responsible for journalism without morality.
He said freedom, accountability and transparency of the newspapers and journalists should be ascertained for the welfare of the nation.
He made these observations while addressing as the chief guest at a dialogue styled "Policy and Morality of Bangladesh's Journalism" held at the conference hall of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) Thursday.
Centre for Communication and Development (CCD) and BPC jointly arranged the dialogue attended by local newspaper owners and journalists leaders and newsmen.
The BPC chairman laid emphasis on collective efforts of all concerned regarding establishment of rights and regular payments of the newsmen.
In this context, he also urged the government, newspaper owners and journalists' organisations to take effective and need-based steps so that the persons working in the newspapers could get their salaries as per the recommendations of the wage board.
BPC Secretary Shafiquzzaman also addressed the meeting as special guest with CCD chairman and editor of the Doinik Barta SMA Kader in the chair.
Chairman of Mass Communication and Journalism Department of Rajshahi University Khademul Islam and assistant professor Shatil Siraj, editor of the Daily Sonali Songbad Liaqat Ali, editor of Daily Notun Probhat Sarder Abdur Rahman and editor of the Daily Sunshine Tasiqul Alam Bokul addressed the dialogue as panel discussants.
They favoured making the BPC more time fitting and proactive so that it could work for establishing the rights and freedom of the newsmen.
