FE Report
Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) has selected five lowest private bidders for installing six power plants on a rental basis across the country to generate around 240 megawatts (MW) of electricity.
The BPDB opened the financial offers of the interested entrepreneurs Thursday at its office, following re-tendering, to select the lowest bidders, who will be awarded the job to install their respective power units within the next six months.
The selected bidders will have to supply electricity to the state-owned power entities at the rates, they have offered, for next 15 years.
Sources said Desh Engineering emerged the lowest bidder for the two power units-one at Barabkundu and the other at Kumargaon-with the generation capacity of 20 MWs each. It has offered the lowest price of electricity from the two units at Tk 2.25 per kilowatt hour (per unit) and Tk 2.39 per unit respectively.
On the other hand, for the 80 MW rental power plant to be installed at Shahjibazar, Youth Spinning has offered the lowest price at Tk 2.35 per unit.
Ornet Power has offered the selling price of electricity at Tk 2.47 per unit to become the lowest bidder for installing a 50 MW power plant on rental basis at Fenchuganj.
Hosaf Power that offered Tk. 2.12 per unit was found to be the lowest bidder for setting up one 20 MW rental power plant at Feni.
For installing a 50 MW rental power unit at Shikalbaha, Bengal Electric offered the lowest price at Tk 2.07 per unit.
"The prices offered by the bidders this time are much lower than the prices offered during the previous tendering," a senior BPDB official said.
The cabinet committee on government purchase cancelled the previous bidding for all the six rental power units.
As per the previous bidding cancelled three months ago, the government had to purchase electricity at Tk 2.63 per unit from the Shabjibazar 80 MW rental power plant, at Tk 2.83 per unit from Fenchuganj 50 MW power plant, at Tk 2.79 per unit from Kumargaon 20 MW power unit, at Tk 2.73 per unit from Feni 20 MW power unit, at Tk 2.64 per unit from Sikalbaha 50 MW power unit and at Tk Tk 2.86 per unit from Barabkundu 20 MW power unit.
