BPDB, SSPL sign PPA

The state-run Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) has inked a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Sonagazi Solar Power Ltd (SSPL) to build a 50-mewagatt solar power plant in Noakhali.
The deal-signing ceremony was hosted at Bidyut Bhaban in the capital on Wednesday.
An implementation agreement was also penned by Power Division under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, the Power Generation Company Bangladesh Ltd and the SSPL to this end.
Nasrul Hamid, state minister for power, energy and mineral resources was present there as the chief guest.
The BPDB will purchase electricity from the SSPL-owned power plant for 20 years at 10.94 US cents per unit (1.0 kilowatt/hour) under the PPA.
Addressing the event, Mr Hamid underpinned the importance of utilising modern technology to implement renewable energy projects, including solar power ones.
He said, "The government has been working to ensure the generation of 40-per cent electricity from clean energy by 2041 and zero carbon emission by 2050."
