Monday, 17 October 2022

FE REPORT
Temporary workers of the Bangladesh Railway (BR) warned to go for tougher movement, if their six-point charter of demands are not realised immediately by the authority concerned.
The made the demands during a rally in front of the BR Administrative Building near Kamalapur Railway Station in the capital on Sunday.
Hundreds of temporary workers participated in the rally. They vowed to continue the movement until their demands are fulfilled.
However, the schedule of trains was not disrupted due to the rally, according to the railway station officials.
While visiting the Kamalapur station, the FE correspondent found that the temporary railway staffs - under the banner of BR Temporary Workers Council - were chanting slogans to realise their demands.
Robiul Islam, a temporary worker from Rangpur district, said he has been working for near about three years, and now passing his days amid sheer uncertainty about regularisation of his job.
Two other temporary staffs - Ashraful Islam from Gaibandha and Md Jahangir from Lalmonirhat - also described the similar situation.
They said they cannot maintain families with a meagre monthly salary due to their temporary jobs.
They called upon the authority concerned to fulfil their demands without delay - considering their woes and financial hardship.
Their demands included regularising jobs, reinstating the previous provision of appointing fourth-class employees with an educational qualification of eighth grade schooling by amending the Appointment Rules 2020, cancelling outsourcing system by introducing temporary provision, paying all dues of workers and employees immediately, stopping hiring and firing culture of temporary workers by abusing power, and ensuring eight-hour daily duty of workers with safe working place.
