Bracing ourselves for another Covid wave

Tuesday, 21 June 2022

Covid cases are gradually on the rise again. The positivity rate has reached 7.38 per cent after a low prevalence for almost three months on Sunday. The Directorate General of Health Services reported 304 Covid cases, as well. We should be worried over the sudden and sharp increase in the number of cases in the last few days. The recent increase in both the number of new cases and the test positivity rate suggests that there is no scope for complacency. And maintaining the Covid health safety protocols is still essential.
The authorities concerned now need to run regular awareness campaigns at all levels of society to ensure that people diligently maintain health guidelines. While the vaccination programme has reportedly been adequate so far, they also need to ensure that all vulnerable groups receive vaccines before another possible wave of the Covid infection could emerge.
