BRDB disburses Tk 108m loans in Brahmanbaria

BRAHMANBARIA, Aug 12: The Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) disbursed Tk 108 million loans among 6026 poor farmers through its eight upazilas central associations(UCA's) in the district during the financial year 2007-2008. The rate of loan disbursement was 68 per cent. BRDB had a set target to disburse Tk 160 million during the last fiscal year, sources said.

BRDB has also recovered Tk 92.1 million in outstanding loans against the target of Tk 162.0 million. The rate of recovery was 57 per cent.

The loans are given for poverty alleviation programmes so that farmers could implement various projects like cattle rearing, crop cultivation etc and invest in pisciculture, poultry farms as well as farm machinery purchase and small enterprises, sources said.

The BRDB has set a target to disburse Tk 178.3 million loans in the district during the fiscal year 2008-2009. It has already disbursed Tk 11.3 million loans.
