Breast cancer awareness campaign launched

Nokia and the Center for Cancer Prevention & Research (CCPR) have jointly announced the start of a nationwide breast cancer awareness campaign and free screening programme Sunday.
In Bangladesh, CCPR intensified its initiatives to raise awareness about the disease and conducts screening camps across the country for women for detecting breast cancer during this month, Executive Director of CCPR Mosarrat Jahan Talukder said at a press conference held at a city hotel Sunday
Marketing manager of Nokia Tasneem Ayub said Nokia has announced a promotion tied with the launch of its Supernova range of devices whereby Tk 1000 from the sale of each Nokia 7210, 7310, 7510, or 7610 from October to November would be spent for raising breast cancer awareness.
Managing Director of Nokia EA Prem Chand said, "Nokia is committed to contributing to the Bangladesh community and we are pleased to be involved in this campaign to raise the awareness of breast cancer within Bangladesh."
He also said, "Early detection can assist in the prevention and management of breast cancer and Nokia hopes that Bangladeshi women will avail the opportunity of screening."
CCPR Executive Director Mosarrat Jahan Talukder said, "It is important to remember that breast cancer has the second highest prevalence amongst women who contract cancer. Despite this few women know anything about illness or how important it is to screen for early detection of the disease."
