Wednesday, 3 July 2024

The Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) has drawn its attention to the recent demonstrations and work abstention by some officials and employees of Palli Bidyut Samity (PBS) which is under the BREB.
They are staging demonstrations in many places to press for their demands, but such demonstrations have severely disrupted the rural electrification activities and services to the customers, which is in no way acceptable, the BREB said in a press release.
Many of the protesters have engaged in anti-disciplinary activities in the name of demonstrations, which is not only causing disruptions to consumer services but also undermining the government's image, it added.
Meanwhile, BREB held a view-exchange meeting with officials and employees of PBS at the BREB Board Room on May 10, with senior secretary of power division in the chair. PBS officials brought up different issues, including discrimination in salary, pay and ranks, regularisation of contractual employees, workforce structure, introduction of uniform service code and promotions.
In a follow-up to this meeting, another view-exchange meeting was held between BREB high officials and senior general managers and general managers of 80 PBS on June 08. At the meeting, a high-level committee was formed, comprising Power Division representatives, 2 senior general managers, 2 presidents of PBS and BREB officials. The committee was tasked with making recommendations on issues related to the interests of employees.
On June 22, another meeting was held between the presidents of 80 PBS and BREB officials to discuss current issues.
In continuation of this, a follow-up meeting on the overall situation will be held with PBS officials on July 05. Md Habibur Rahman, Senior Secretary of Power Division, will be present as the chief guest at the meeting.
