Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) is set to procure 20,900 power distribution transformers with an expenditure of over Tk 2.0 billion for ensuring smooth supply of electricity across the country, officials said.
It is a part of a project taken to replace 70,000 overloaded transformers, according to a decision of BREB board on December 28, 2016.
The recommendation of the tender evaluation committee in this regard has been sent to the cabinet committee on public purchase (CCPP) for final approval.
The government and BREB will jointly bear the total project cost of over Tk 7.0 billion. The project is expected to be implemented by December this year.
"We have sent a proposal for replacement of the overloaded distribution transformers to the cabinet committee on public purchase for its approval in the upcoming meeting," a high official of the BREB told the FE.
