Brick kiln labourer shot dead by extortionists in Chuadanga

CHUADANGA, Jan 30: A brick kiln labourer was gunned down and six others injured by  unidentified extortionists in a brick kiln at village Kumary under Alamdanga Upazila of the district Thursday night at about 3:00am. The deceased was identified as Shujon (35), son of Abdul Malek, a resident of Shapur under Iswardi Upazila of Pabna district.
Alamdanga thana police and local and victim family sources said a gang of armed extortionists  numbering 6-7 entered into one brick kiln named Musa brick at village Kumary and demanded Tk 5 lakh as toll but the field owners refused to pay the money. At one stage the criminals opened fired on the labourers of the field and one Shujon died on the spot. Another labourer Rafiqul Islam (38) received bullet injury in his chest and legs.
The criminals also beat up others including the manger indiscriminately leaving the manger Golap Ali (40) and labourers Abdul Latif (32), Siddique (35), Robiul (37), Abdur Rajjak (38) injured.
Later locals rescued the injured and rushed them to a local private clinic. Of them bullet hit Rafiqul Islam was shifted to Kushtia General Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
