Brick kilns, pond owner fined Tk 140,000

Two brick kiln owners and a man have been fined Tk 140,000 for polluting environment at Paba Upazila in Rajshahi district. Executive Magistrate and the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Razzaqul Islam conducted mobile court in Ramchandrapur and Joykrishnapur areas. The court found Anwar Hossain, owner of MAC Brick Ciln, Khairul Islam, Owner of Alif Brick Ciln and Osman Ghani, owner of a pond, as violating the environment laws by polluting air, contaminating water and endangering greenery and fish. The two kiln owners were fined Tk 60,000 and Tk 50,000 respectively while the dumper of toxic wastes in the pond was slapped a fine to the tune of Tk 30,000. The magistrate told the reporters that they were operating the kilns and dumping the pond flouting the environment laws. Deputy Director of the Department of Environment Mijanujr Rahman and other officials concerned and members of the law-enforcement agencies assisted the mobile court, according to a news agency.
