Bricks worth Tk 50m damaged following heavy downpour

KHULNA, Jan 8: A huge number of raw bricks worth about Tk. 50 million have been completely damaged following an incessant and downpour for last three days. As a result the owners of the brickfields of south-western part of the country face great losses in this season, sources said.
Source said that about six hundred brickfields are situated in Khulna, Jessore, Bagerhat and Satkhira areas.
Brick field source said that they are running their business facing various obstacles.
The brickfield owners said that they have to pay a huge amount of money for VAT, income tax, land tax, electric bills, trade license and getting clearance from environment department.
Poachers held with deer traps
Two poachers were arrested with two thousand traps for hunting deer from Putuakhali area under Chandpai range of East Sundarbans Friday morning.
The arrestees are Hannan Molla (44), son of Ashraf Mollik of village Chanditala under Rampal Upazila of Bagerhat district and Hanif Molla (48), son of Rafej Molla of village Solinpara under Amtali Upazila of Barguna district.
DFO Mihir Kumar Dey of East Sundarbans said that on information, the forest guards of Putuakhali camp raided Holdiakhali area of Chandpai range while the poachers were setting up the traps in that area and arrested them and seized about two thousand traps of hunting deer.
A case was filed under the Forest Act and the arrested were sent to Bagerhat court.
