CSE for continuation of money whitening
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) has made a set of demands including the reconsideration of the scope of whitening undisclosed money through capital market by individual taxpayers. The port city bourse CSE has also demanded exemption of their corporate tax to facilitate the establishment of the country's maiden commodity exchange (CX). Page 9
Biden announces migration pact
US president Joe Biden unveiled a "new approach to managing migration" in Latin America on Friday, but observers said the measures were only the start of what was needed to address one of the hemisphere's most pressing problems. Biden unveiled the Los Angeles Declaration on Migration at the end of a Summit of the Americas that was marred by acrimony over the US's refusal to invite Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua. Page 14
Bangladesh lose to Turkmenistan
Bangladesh lost 2-1 to upper-ranked Turkmenistan in their keenly contested 2nd Group E match of the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Qualifiers at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday. The match was locked in 1-1 goals in the first half. The latest FIFA International ranking of Central Asian country Turkmenistan is 134 against Bangladesh's current ranking 188. Page 13
Apparel exports to US grow 65pc
The country's apparel exports to the US maintained a robust growth in terms of both value and volume during the first four months of 2022. The US imported readymade garment (RMG) items worth US$3.29 billion from Bangladesh during the period from January to April this year, marking a 65.08 per cent growth year-on-year, according to OTEXA, an affiliate of the US Department of Commerce.
