Large-caps pull DSEX below 6,500 mark
The stock market ended sharply lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark index dipping below 6,500 mark, as jittery investors sold off major sector stocks amid the fall in value of local currency against dollar. The market managed to stay afloat until the mid-session, but the heavy selling pressure on particular large-cap stocks in the later part of the session pulled the index down. Page 9
Xi Jinping visits Kazakhstan
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday started his first foreign trip since the outbreak of the pandemic with a stop in Kazakhstan ahead of a summit with Russia's Vladimir Putin and other leaders of a Central Asian security group. Wearing a blue suit and a face mask, Xi was met on the airport tarmac by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and an honor guard, all of whom wore masks. Page 17

Set up testing labs at ports: FBCCI
The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) urged the government on Wednesday to set up testing labs at the country's sea-ports and land-ports for fast release of imported goods and maintaining uninterrupted production. It also demanded to revoke the provision of providing incentives to the customs officials for realising fines on duties. Page 20
