Bring every diabetic patient under healthcare service

Planning Minister AHM Mostafa Kamal today called for bringing every diabetes patient under healthcare service by preparing a personal data across the country, reports BSS.
"Though the diabetes is not a curable disease, but it could be controlled and awareness building programme could reduce diabetes and its complications among the general people," he said while speaking as the chief guest at a memorial meeting at Birdem Hospital.
Bangladesh Diabetes Association (BDA) organized the memorial meeting on the occasion of 25th death anniversary of National Prof Dr M Ibrahim and Service Day, with its president AK Azad Khan in the chair. The memorial was also addressed, among others by, Director General of Birdem Hospital Nazmun Nahar, vice president of BDA Major General (retd) AR Khan, secretary general M Saifuddin, Dr Sayeed Haider, Sabera Sayeed and SA Monsur (Sakil).
"It is necessary to find out each and every diabetes patient at upazila and village level to bring under service," the minister said.
Mr Kamal said rural level patient would be benefited on availability of diagnosis at every community clinic across the country.
They said each year 22,753 new diabetes patients are added in the country.
Some 4.0 million people in Bangladesh had diabetes in 2000 and the number would be 11.4 million in 2023, speakers added quoting the World Health Organisation (WHO).
