Bring more EU missions in BD to facilitate sending manpower

New trade body RAABED urges govt

Manpower recruiters have urged the government to bring more foreign missions or consulate offices, particularly of the European countries, in Bangladesh as they now have to process visas for many of the potential EU job destinations from India.
They also suggested allocating funds in the national budget to develop skilled workers and promote markets in the EU and other developed labour-receiving countries.
There is a demand for 8.7 million workers in various countries of the EU and other developed world, but Bangladesh cannot take the opportunity due to lack of necessary preparation, they said.
The recruiters were speaking at the debut event of the Recruiting Agencies Association of Bangladesh for Europe and Developed Countries (RAABED) in the city on Wednesday.
"We are not able to capture the European market although it can be a very important source of remittance inflow," said Arifur Rahman, president of the RAABED.
He said there is a demand for foreign workers in many developed countries like Germany, Romania, Serbia, Italy, Greece, Canada, Russia, and Japan.
It is true that many training centres have been established by the government and under private initiatives, he said. "However, we have a shortage of skilled workers. So, we can't catch that market."
In response to a question from journalists at the event, RAABED General Secretary Md Siddiqur Rahman said inward remittance from our main market like Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and Singapore would be much less than expected as compared to the number of workers who went there from Bangladesh due to lack of their adequate skills.
"The main reason is lack of skills. RAABED was formed to help increase the outflow of skilled workers abroad."
RAABED, which has been formed for sending manpower to developed nations, also suggested deploying required skilled manpower in Bangladesh's missions in different countries for improving services and market promotion.
The association has started its journey with about 70 members.
