Bringing potato price under control
Tuesday, 12 September 2023
The prices of daily groceries are increasing every week. After chilli and onion, now the potato market is in crisis. Businessmen are saying that the supply of potato is decreasing and so its price is rising. However, government agencies are claiming that there is sufficient supply of potatoes in the country. However, the price of potato has increased by Tk 10 per kilogram within two weeks. And now it has reached Tk 50 per kg in the retail market, which was Tk 20-30 six months ago. And no one seems to know why potato price is rising abnormally.
Potato is one of the cheapest food items in Bangladesh. A large number of poor people are rely on potato for their everyday meals. If the price of potato goes beyond their reach, it will leave millions of commoners in dire straits. Therefore, the government should immediately address this problem and take effective measures so bringing the price of potato under control.
