Prime Minister's Office and the British Council signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) Wednesday on Access to Information (A2I) Programme which would be supported by UNDP.
Under the MoU British Council will provide English resources to the Union Information and Service Centres (UISCs) of 4,500 unions of the country.
Anir Chowdhury, policy adviser of A2I Programme, and Martin Davidson, chief executive officer (CEO) of British Council, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations at the British Council auditorium in city.
Anir Chowdhury said they expect the engagement of British Council will boost the government efforts to ensure quality education at grassroots level through UISCs.
This effort will also help the government fulfil its vision-2021 and establish Virtual Centre in all schools, he added.
Davidson said British Council is very delighted to sign the MoU, because under this deal they will be able to reach citizens’ doorsteps and help them learn English.
"We want to create an English learning community so that people of the country can be able to make communication beyond the boundary," he further said.
Davidson thinks that this effort will help the government build an educated nation. British Council will provide easy-going English materials for people and A2I Programme.
