Monday, 31 March 2014

British State Minister for International Development Alan Duncan arrives in the city  today (Monday) on a three-day visit, just ahead of the first anniversary of Rana Plaza building collapse that falls on April 24, reports UNB.
Apart from seeing the progress in the readymade garment industry and rehabilitation progress of those injured in the Rana Plaza building collapse, Duncan will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam during his stay in Dhaka, said an official Sunday.
Alan was appointed Minister of State for International Development with a remit covering the Middle East and Asia and relations with the UN, EU, IMF and World Bank.
During his last visit to Dhaka in June last year after the Rana Plaza building collapse, Duncan told the media that safety and standards must be made to catch up with the rapid growth in the garment sector, which has a massive success story and must not be allowed to go sour.
