Brother, JU teacher testify

A Jahangirnagar University (JU) teacher and the victim's brother testified Wednesday before a Dhaka tribunal at the trial of the killing of JU student Zubair Ahmed, reports UNB.
Judge ABM Nizamul Haque of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 recorded the depositions of Dr Abdul Mannan Chowdhury, a professor of JU Physics Department, and Zubair's brother Abdullah Al Mamun.
After the depositions, defence lawyers cross-examined the witnesses.
With this, a total of 11 witnesses have so far made their depositions in the murder case.
Zubair Ahmed, an English Department student of the university, was beaten by some Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists on January 8, 2012 and he later succumbed to his injuries at United Hospital in the city on January 9.
A case was later filed with Ashulia Police Station in this connection.
Police submitted a charge-sheet against 13 BCL men on April 8, 2012.
On September 8 last year, the Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 framed charges against the 13 BCL activists in the murder case.
The accused are: Nazmul Hossain, Kamruzzaman, Mazharul Islam, Mohammad Mahmudul Hasan, Khandakar Ashik, Jahid Hasan, Mahbub Akram, Nazmus Sakim, Rashedul Islam, Khan Mohammad Rais, Ishtiaque Mehbub Arup, Shafiul Alam Setu and Abhinandan Kundu.
