Brothers die in RAB \\\'encounter\\\'

Two brothers have died in an encounter with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Rangpur. The gun battle was reported from an alley beside a clinic near the cantonment check post around 3:00am on Thursday, RAB-13 Deputy Commander Maj Ashraf Ali said. ‘Manik’, 32, and ‘Sumon’, 27, were accused in several criminal cases, including murder, said Kotwali Police Station OC Abdul Kader Zilani. “The RAB men were attacked with sharp weapons when they challenged the brothers. They fired in self-defence and the brothers fired back. Both of them died during the shootout,” said Maj Ashraf. “RAB SI Saiful Islam and Navy Lt Imran have suffered cut injuries inflicted by sharp weapons. They are at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.” Two pistols, bullets and sharp weapons have been recovered from the spot, RAB claimed, according to bdnews24.com.
