Brothers get 14 yrs for acid attack

A court in Netrakona on Wednesday sentenced two brothers to 14 years’ rigorous imprisonment for throwing acid at a person following a feud over property 11 years ago. Netrokona Acid Prevention Tribunal-2 Judge Md Abdul Hamid pronounced the verdict in the afternoon. In addition to imprisonment, each of them has also been fined Tk 10,000. In case of failure to pay the fine, they will have to spend extra 1 year in the prison. The convicts are Abdur Rashid and his brother Saiful of Gamruli village in Kendua Upazila. Court sources said Abdur Rashid and Saiful went to Abdur Razzak’s residence on the night of May 21, 2003, and threw acid at him injuring him seriously. The following day, Razzak’s father Md Wahed filed a case at Kendua Police station. Police submitted a charge-sheet on June 19, 2003, against the two brothers, according to a news agency.
