US Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Ambassador William R Brownfield arrives in Dhaka this (Saturday) evening on a 3-day visit. Ambassador Brownfield will meet government officials to discuss US support for policing, border security, and criminal justice efforts in Bangladesh. He will also deliver remarks at the regional Good Giving Counterterrorism Financing Training Conference and will be joined there by Law Minister Anisul Huq and approximately 40 attendees from Bangladesh, the Maldives, Nepal, and Pakistan. The US and Bangladesh partner on a variety of security issues, including community policing, as well as technical assistance and capacity building to improve Bangladesh’s criminal justice systems. Specific initiatives include the creation of community forums and women’s shelters, and the reform and development of law enforcement curriculum to include arson investigation and other specialised courses, according to a State Department media release.
