FE REPORT | Tuesday, 30 May 2023

Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) filed a total of 722 cases over violation of traffic rules and realised over Tk 2.41 million as fine in January 2023.
BRTA filed the cases mainly due to not having proper papers, route violations, lack of permit and driving licence of drivers, and fitness issues.
However, both the number of cases and the amount of fine witnessed a decline in January compared to the previous two months.
The agency lodged 875 cases against different vehicles and fined Tk 3.38 million in December 2022, while it filed some 1,019 cases and fined Tk 4.04 million in November 2022.
BRTA also jailed two people and dumped 15 vehicles in its 99 drives in January 2023, according to its monthly data.
In December last year, it conducted a total of 126 drives and sent to jail over 10 people and dumped 31 vehicles.
In November 2022, the entity imprisoned 19 people and dumped 10 vehicles in 181 drives, the BRTA data showed.
The transport regulator lodged the cases as per the Road Transport Act 2018 and other relevant laws.
BRTA regularly conducts mobile court drives across the country with a view to bringing discipline and order on the roads.

cases and realised over Tk 2.71 million as fine in February 2022.
