JHENIDAH, Sept 05: A total of 246 registration applications were submitted to the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), Jhenidah Circle since the starting of traffic week in the backdrop of countrywide students' movement for safe road.
To cope with the extra pressure of work, the higher authority ordered extension of office hours by four hours and curtailment of holidays.
Here the office now remains open from 9.00am to 9.00pm, except on Friday and public holidays.
This new office timetable is continuing since the beginning of traffic week with a few days' relaxation. Those days office time was 9.00pm to 5.00pm.
Sources said the number of visitors in a single day has been more than double than that of a previous normal working day.
Assistant director and four other men in the office are, at present, very busy dealing with visitors coming here seeking different types of services.
Official sources said, most of the visitors are license and new vehicle registration applicants.
Bilas Sarkar, assistant director of BRTA, Jhenidah, told the FE, "One post of assistant inspector and another post of inspector are lying vacant in the office putting additional pressure of work on them."
