BRTA services for cars, SUVs to be dearer
FE Report | Friday, 12 June 2020
Services rendered by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) for cars and sports utility vehicles (SUV) will be costlier next year, according to the duty rate proposed in the 2020-21 budget.
The supplementary duty on such services has been raised to 15 per cent in the next budget from the existing rate of 10 per cent.
"I propose to increase supplementary duty from 10 per cent to 15 per cent for all kinds of services rendered by BRTA for car and jeep registration and related services," Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said in his budget speech delivered in parliament on Thursday.
Also, the Finance Bill has outlined a way to increase annual tax for cars and SUVs by 50-67 per cent, depending on the vehicle type and engine capacity.
If the two are implemented together, buying and registering a car would be expensive as the final supplementary duty would be applicable on the increased annual tax.
