BRUSSELS, Aug 9 (UNB): Local units of Awami League (AL) and BNP are preparing to stage demonstration demanding release of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina and protesting government action not allowing BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to visit flood-hit areas.
The expatriate leaders of the two major political parties will soon stage the demonstration in front of the European Union headquarters here.
Earlier, on July 31, expatriate AL leaders submitted a memorandum to the European Commission demanding release of Sheikh Hasina.
AL European Union unit president Anil Das Gupta led the programme, attended by party's Belgium unit president Rezaul Karim Panna, general secretary MA Gani, vice presidents Shahidul Haq, Jahangir Hossain and Hawlader Kabir.
The AL leaders are now preparing for a massive demonstration to intensify their pressure for releasing party chief Sheikh Hasina.
Talking to the news agency, the AL Belgium unit vice president and chief of Belgium Association of Bangladesh Shahidul Haque said they would take more programme if the AL president is not released after their proposed demonstration.
"Even the Bangladeshi expatriates will stop sending remittance to the country," he said.
BNP's Brussels unit leaders Saidur Rahman Liton and Tofazzal Hossain told the news agency that they would soon arrange a tele-conference with Khaleda Zia.
