Monday, 6 July 2015

Railways Minister M Mazibul Haque said Sunday about 12,960.41 acres of land owned by Bangladesh Railway (BR) remain unused across the country, reports BSS.
"We are evicting phase after phase illegal structures, infrastructures and grabbers from the BR lands," he said, while replying to a question from whip Shahiduzzaman Sarkar in the House.
The minister said initiatives under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) were now underway to construct 5-Star hotel-cum commercial buildings, motels, medical colleges, hospitals and multi-storied shopping malls on the unused BR lands.
"The PPP office under the Prime Minister's Office has appointed a transaction adviser for constructing a 5-Star hotel at Zakir Hossain Road in Chittagong," Mazibul said. The Transaction Adviser has already submitted the Final Detailed Feasibility Study Report, approved by the authority.
He said the PPP office would also offer the Request For Qualification (RFQ) for appointing investors soon for construction of the five- star hotel.
Replying to another written question from treasury bench member Nurunnabi Chowdhury, he  informed the House that Bangladesh Railway identified the already illegally occupied 4,538 BR residential units, adding, "We have started a drive to recover those residential units from the illegal grabbers."
