BSCIC autumn fair adds new dimension to Eid market

Monday, 14 September 2009

A five-day autumn fair organised by Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) has added a new dimension to the Eid market in the city, reports BSS.
BSCIC Chairman Asraf Mohammad Iqbal inaugurated the fair as the chief guest at Motijheel BSCIC Bhaban Sunday while its Director (finance) Siaf Uddin was the special guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Asraf said: "We need quality goods to compete on the international market as Bangladeshi products of small and cottage industries have a good demand."
A total of 60 stalls of various BSCIC units of the country have been set up in the fair.
Local textile products, including handloom, silk, cotton, boutique-print and benarasi saris, cotton shirts, panjabis, fatuas, three pieces, lehengas, skirts, divider frocks and khadi clothes, have been displayed at the fair.
Nasrin Sultana, a Jamdani shop owner, said she expected good sales from the show. "We have already come across a lot of inquisitive customers just on the opening day which is rare," she said.
Enamul Haque, a buyer, said locally produced saris and other products were of good quality, which could compete with any foreign items. So, people should buy more local goods to protect the local handloom and textile sector.
