BSCIC problems to be solved for expansion of small industries: Dilip

Saturday, 4 April 2009

CHITTAGONG, Apr 3 (BSS): Industries Minister Dilip Barua Thursday said the government has given priority on expansion of small and cottage industries as part of the programme of turning Bangladesh digital by ensuring desired industrial growth considering the sector's contribution in the country's economy.
The minister said the government is committed to provide all possible logistic support to develop different areas under the jurisdiction of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) particularly its infrastructure facilities to accommodate more industrial enterprises.
Dilip Barua said this at a meeting with the BSCIC officials during his visit at BSCIC industrial estate in city's Nasirabad area.
Regional Director of BSCIC, Chittagong Eng. Harun Ur-Rashid Bhuiyan, Deputy General Manager (DGM) Mohammed Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, Chittagong south district unit general secretary of Awami League (AL) Moslem Uddin Ahmed and owners of industries enterprises at BSCIC estate attended the meeting.
BSCIC officials appraised the minister that a total of 53 industrial units have been set up and under operation at BSCIC Nasirabad estate covering 14.01 acres. Many problems including poor condition of roads of the zone are hampering smooth operation of the industries.
Officials said they are unable to resolve the problems due to fund constraints.
Speaking at the meeting, the Industries Minister said the industrial units in BSCIC areas have been facing various problems for a long time as past governments did not take any effective measures to solve those.
"The present government is well-aware about the problems and strongly believes that industrialisation can not be possible in the country ignoring the small and medium enterprises but solving the problems can not be possible overnight for a young government particularly at a time of financial recessions," he reminded the officials and industry owners.
He, however, assured them of taking meaningful steps on priority basis as per government's ability at this stage.
Speaking as the chief guest at another function earlier, Dilip Barua said there was no scope of making comparison between Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Ziaur Rahman as Bangabandhu was the architect and founder of the nation and the country.
"The nation now wants to get rid of the distorted history continued for a long time and it is the proper time to project the real history of the nation before the future generation," he said.
Meron Sun School and College authorities arranged the discussion and prize distribution function to mark the 39th Independence Day on its Bahadderhat campus. Principal of the institution Mohammed Sanaullah presided over the function.
