BSCIC Chairman Fakhrul Islam told the FE: "This time we are going to set up an industrial estate for the people of southern region, who are lagging behind others in industrialisation. "This is for the first time we are taking this initiative for the southern region according to the promise of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina last year. It will help develop small and medium enterprises as well as the socio-economic condition of this area and strengthen the poverty alleviation process." He said: "The estimated cost of this estate is Tk 72.7 million that would be entirely borne by the government. There will be 61 plots for SME units in the estate which will create job opportunity for at least 2,200 people directly and for a number of others indirectly." "The industrial estate will be set up in Kroke area near Barguna Sadar on more than 10 acres of land. This project is expected to get nod from the Planning Commission soon," he added.
