The securities regulator has protested the statement of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) stating that its 'baseless' remark regarding the regulatory influence on the selection process of DSE' strategic partner is 'objectionable' .
In a statement, the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) requested the TIB to make the evidence of the regulatory influence in favour of any bidder public.
The BSEC's protest came Saturday a day after the TIB expressed concern over 'illegal' intervention in the selection process of a strategic partner of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
The TIB voiced concern following media reports on 'illegal' influence by an Indian bidder and subsequent move by the regulatory body to select the Indian bidder as a strategic partner of the country's premier bourse.
"Such statement delivered without justifying subjectivity makes the acceptability of TIB questionable," the BSEC said in its statement.
The BSEC said it has not yet received any formal proposal regarding selection of a strategic partner from the DSE.
"In that it will be convenient for the securities regulator to reply to the TIB's remark if they provide information in this regard," the BSEC said.
